Your Independent Guide
to Consumer Tech
Unbiased reviews, hands-on testing, and expert buying advice. Helping readers worldwide make smarter technology decisions since 2014.
Our Story
Built to cut through the marketing noise
Reviewstown was founded in 2014 by a group of technology enthusiasts who were tired of reading spec sheets dressed up as reviews. We set out to build something different: a publication where every verdict comes from real-world use. No press briefings. No sponsored partnerships. No sponsored verdicts.
Our team tests smartphones fresh from the production line, evaluates AI tools against real-world workflows, and benchmarks cameras in the conditions that actually matter to photographers and filmmakers. If a product disappoints, we say so. Plainly.
We cover the full spectrum of consumer technology: flagship smartphones, wireless earbuds, drones, wearables, AI software, and smart home gear. Our buying guides are built to save you time and money, not to push a sale.
Editorial independence is non-negotiable. Manufacturers do not review or approve our content before publication. No advertiser relationship has ever changed a rating, and none ever will.
A Decade of Coverage
Our history
2014
Founded
Reviewstown launches as a dedicated technology publication, focused on helping everyday readers navigate the rapidly changing world of consumer tech with honest, practical guidance.
2016
Product Review Vertical Launches
We expand beyond how-to guides to publish full hands-on product reviews, establishing our structured testing methodology that rates products on performance, value, and real-world usability.
2019
Camera & Imaging Coverage Expands
Scott Bailey joins as Camera & Imaging Editor, bringing photojournalism experience to bear on smartphone cameras, action cams, and mirrorless systems. Drone coverage follows shortly after.
2021
Global Readership Milestone
Reviewstown’s audience grows to span over 60 countries. Our coverage model, with team members embedded near major tech supply chains, gives us early access to products months before they reach Western retail shelves.
2023
AI Tools Coverage Launches
As artificial intelligence reshapes consumer software, we launch a dedicated AI tools review vertical, covering models, productivity apps, and creative tools with the same rigour we apply to hardware.
2025
500+ Reviews Published
More than 500 in-depth product reviews published across 10+ categories. We continue to expand our team of specialists and deepen our coverage of emerging tech from Asia and beyond.
Looking Ahead
Our vision
“To be the most trusted independent voice in consumer technology. The publication readers turn to first when they need to decide what to buy, what to skip, and what actually matters.”
Broader Global Coverage
Expanding our reach beyond flagship Western releases to cover the innovative products emerging from Asian manufacturers that often never receive fair coverage in English-language media.
Deeper AI & Software Reviews
As AI reshapes every product category, we’re investing in the expertise to evaluate these tools rigorously, holding them to the same evidence-based standard we apply to hardware.
Unwavering Editorial Independence
Reader trust is our most valuable asset. We’ll never compromise our editorial standards for commercial gain. That commitment is the foundation everything else is built on.
How We Work
Our editorial standards
Hands-On Testing
Every product we review is physically tested by a specialist. We don’t recycle manufacturer specs or PR talking points.
Independent Editorial
Advertisers have zero influence on our verdicts. No brand sees our content before it goes live. Ever.
Category Specialists
Cameras reviewed by a former photojournalist. Wearables by a fitness-tech specialist. Domain expertise, not generalism.
Kept Up to Date
Reviews are revisited when major firmware updates, price drops, or new competitors change the picture.
The Team
Meet the reviewers
Nelson James
Senior Tech Reporter
Based in Shenzhen with a computer science background, Nelson covers smartphones, hardware, and the Asia tech supply chain with a proximity few Western publications can match.
Scott Bailey
Camera & Imaging Editor
A former photojournalist turned technology writer, Scott brings a practitioner’s eye to every camera, drone, and imaging product he puts through its paces.
Bruce Valdeo
Software & AI Reviewer
Bruce lives and breathes software. From productivity apps to the latest AI tools, he tests everything against real workflows rather than feature checklists.
Melisa Pomero
Buying Guide Editor
With a decade in e-commerce and retail analysis, Melisa specialises in value-for-money assessments and the buying guides that help readers pick the right product at the right price.
Jeff Card
Fitness Tech Reviewer
Jeff covers wearables, health trackers, and sports technology. He tests fitness devices the way athletes use them: across long training cycles, not just a weekend on the wrist.
What We Stand For
Our values
Honesty
We call it as we see it. Positive or negative, our verdicts reflect what we actually experienced. Nothing is softened to protect a commercial relationship.
Rigour
Claims are tested, not assumed. We verify specs, reproduce benchmarks, and spend meaningful time with a product before forming a conclusion.
Accessibility
Expert knowledge, plain language. We write for people who want to make good decisions, not for insiders who already know all the answers.
Global Perspective
Technology doesn’t stop at national borders, and neither do we. We cover the products shaping daily life worldwide, from Silicon Valley to Shenzhen.
